Applicants can obtain permanent residency in the UK. after 5 years of residing as an EEA national or family member.

Under the 2006 regulations, any family member seeking to apply for permanent residency must show that they have remained in the relationship with the EEA national over the whole 5 year period.

They also have to show that the EEA national has been either:

(a) Working;
(b) Self Employed;
(c) Studying or
(d) Self – Sufficient

during the whole 5 year period.

What can also create advantages for applicant’s is that if they have remained in the relationship for 5 years they can go straight to obtaining permanent residency without having to apply for the initial residence card first.
